Krabi, Thailand
White palm-fringed beaches, azure waters, warm tropical breezes - Krabi is the atypical tropical paradise, right out of the pages of a glossy travel brochure. The natural charms of this province on the Andaman Sea have attracted tourists for literally thousands of years, as well as Hollywood film makers, adventure seekers and escapists. If you love the sea and islands, Krabi is the place for you.
Introducing Krabi
Krabi is a southern province on Thailand's Andaman seaboard with perhaps the country's oldest history of continued settlement. After dating stone tools, ancient colored pictures, beads, pottery and skeletal remains found in the province's many cliffs and caves, it is thought that Krabi has been home to homo sapiens since the period 25,000 - 35,000 B.C. In recorded times it was called the 'Ban Thai Samor', and was one of twelve towns that used, before people were widely literate, the monkey for their standard. At that time, c. 1200 A.D., Krabi was tributary to the Kingdom of Ligor, a city on the Kra Peninsula's east coast better known today as Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Geographical Of Krabi
Krabi is 814 km south of Bangkok. It borders Phang Nga and Surat Thani provinces to the north,Trang province and the Andaman Sea to the south, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang province to the east and Phang Nga province and the Andaman Sea to the west.

Highlands and plains on the mainland characterize Krabi's mountainous geography. The provincial administration also covers more than 130 islands in the Andaman Sea. Natural forest cover is chiefly mangrove and cassia. Krabi's sandy clay soil conditions are perfect for a variety of agricultural products, including rubber trees, palms, mangos, coconuts, and coffee. The Krabi River flows five kilometers through the city and falls into the Andaman at Pak Nam sub-district. Other streams are the Pakasai canal, the Krabi Yai canal and the Krabi Noi canal in the province's highest range, the Phanom Bencha mountain.
Weather All Year Round
Climate
Krabi is affected by the northwest monsoon and has only two seasons. The hottest season starts in January and ends in April. The rainy season begins in May and lasts untill December. Monsoon winds, which change according to the season, blow from the southeast, the southwest, and the northeast. Temperatures range between 16.9 and 37.3 degrees Celsius and the yearly rainfall averages 2,568.5 millimeters.
Culture
Krabi has it own culture and tradition. In June and November every year, the Long Lue Chao Le festival is performed to get rid of bad luck by putting the nails, hairs and an offering in Chao Le boats. This is similar to the Loy Kra Tong festival observed elsewhere in the country.

Sea gypsies, known as Chao Le, inhabit many islands and beaches in Krabi province. They have their own language and have animistic beliefs. They earn their living by catching fish and selling souvenirs such as decorated-shells to the tourists.
